Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) and Delia Orosco, director of IEHP’s Community Wellness Centers, received the Champion Award from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside during the nonprofit’s 30th annual Chocolate & Champagne Fantasy Gala on Feb. 7 in downtown Redlands.
The annual fundraiser supports the Boys & Girls Clubs’ efforts to fund spaces and mentorship opportunities for area youth, while also spotlighting the people and organizations who support its mission. According to the organization, IEHP and Orosco were selected because “their leadership and steadfast commitment embody what it means to support youth when it matters most.”
“The Champion Award represents strength of collaboration and is a great reminder of what we can do together as a community,” said Orosco. “We are creating accessible spaces that support community connection and positive opportunities.”
IEHP’s and Boys & Girls Clubs’ most recent collaboration was the opening of a satellite clubhouse at the health plan’s Victorville Community Wellness Center. There, members are exposed to the Club’s three pillars of focus—academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles—through after-school programming and summer camps.
“Our IEHP partnership is multifaceted and entrenched in the short and long-term health and wellness of our youth,” said Club CEO Michael Wells. “Under Delia’s leadership [IEHP is] often the first to reach out and ask how they can assist and is often the first step into the gap to support our youth.”
Additional IEHP collaborations include providing pallets of food to support food insecurity, sponsoring summer youth camp programming, and counseling in marketing and behavioral health.
“We will continue to expand our reach across the IE as a result of our partnership with IEHP,” said Wells.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside’s mission is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. In addition to its Victorville clubhouse, the organization has sites in Redlands, Riverside and Moreno Valley.
