IEHP College Care Program

College students should be worrying about homework and getting to class on time, not health coverage and other needs. That’s why IEHP teamed up with California Community Colleges to help connect students across the IE to low-cost or no-cost health coverage and other resources to keep them healthy.

 

If you know any college students who don’t have or can’t afford health coverage right now, the IEHP College Care program could help connect them to resources they can afford – right from their college campus.

College Care program features

✓  Enrollment support: IEHP enrollment counselors work with students on campus to help them apply for health coverage if needed based on their income and eligibility.

 

✓  Food assistance: Counselors can also help students apply for food assistance through programs like CalFresh (which has a shared application and eligibility for Medi-Cal).

 

✓  Housing, transportation and job assistance: Our counselors can also connect you to community partners, like ConnectIE, for resources outside of healthcare coverage.

 

✓  On-campus support: The program is already built into some existing services of participating community colleges.

If you attend one of these schools, you can visit your campus Basic Needs Center or student health office to speak directly with an IEHP counselor.

How does it work? Below is a cheat sheet with answers to all your questions about IEHP College Care.

It depends on the program:

  • Medi-Cal and CalFresh: Open all year if you qualify.
  • Covered California: Open Enrollment is Nov. 1-Jan. 31. You may qualify for Special Enrollment if you have a qualified life event like losing insurance or moving.

Our trained counselors will check your income and other factors to see which programs you qualify for. They can also help you apply.

Most Medi-Cal members have no-cost plans. If you don’t qualify for Medi-Cal, many Covered California plans are low-cost and sometimes no-cost with financial help.
