IEHP Celebrates 30 Years

Caring for the Inland Empire

IEHP 30th number

In the mid‑1990s, many people in the Inland Empire had trouble getting care, especially low‑income families. Some had to drive far or wait months to see a doctor. Local leaders in Riverside and San Bernardino counties saw this and wanted a local health plan that would put the community first. That plan became Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP).

IEHP started in 1996 with about 60,000 members. Today, more than 1.4 million people rely on us. We’re known as “the health plan with a heart.” We have no shareholders and do not take profits*. The money we receive stays in the Inland Empire. It helps cover the cost of healthcare and allows us to support local clinics and hospitals. It also lets us partner with local schools and nonprofit groups, build care teams and services, and create places to stay healthy, like our Community Wellness Centers (CWCs).

Our teams work closely with our members. We help find doctors, make appointments and explain benefits. For members who need extra support, we help manage health conditions and connect families to food, housing help and other support services.

Thirty years later, we remain driven by our mission: We heal and inspire the human spirit and will not rest until everyone in the Inland Empire enjoys optimal care and vibrant health. Thank you for being part of our story. Here’s to 30 more years of caring together.

*IEHP is a public, not‑for‑profit health plan. We receive funding from state and federal programs like Medi‑Cal (California’s Medicaid program) and Medicare.
