“It was like walking from darkness into light.” – Harold “Bud” K
When High Desert resident Harold K., aka “Bud,” was introduced to IEHP, he didn’t just find a health plan. He found a new life.
Bud had spent his life active and strong – construction work, gym days, constant movement. But at 79, with a pacemaker and a family history of heart disease, he feared those days were behind him.
After losing both his dog and his sister within weeks, Bud felt himself slipping into isolation.
“I was used to getting out three times a day with my dog, and suddenly I wasn’t moving at all,” he said.
Then, in the mail came a flyer from IEHP Community Wellness Center, and everything changed. Bud now participates in yoga, strength and conditioning, and circuit training. His doctor tells him his heart is stronger. Friends tell him he’s walking taller.
Bud feels it, too.
“I went from being withdrawn to being outgoing,” he said. “I have fun here. The people feel like family. Once you’re in, you’re a friend to everyone and everyone is a friend to you.”
Bud now has a health plan through IEHP and is just as pleased.
“Compared to my previous insurance, IEHP gets things done. When I need something approved, they move quickly.”
Overall, Bud describes his experience with IEHP as eye-opening.
“It saved my life,” he said. “It was like walking from darkness into light.”
