Virtual care made simple

What is telehealth?

If you’re feeling unwell and want quick access to care, use telehealth. Telehealth connects you to a provider via phone or video call — saving you a trip to the doctor’s office. If you want to use telehealth, here’s what to do:

  • Check in with your primary care provider (PCP) to find out if they offer virtual care.
  • If your PCP doesn’t offer virtual care, or you’re unable to get a timely appointment, IEHP provides MDLIVE as an option.
  • If you’re not sure about the right care option for you, you can call the IEHP 24-Hour Nurse Advice Line at 1-888-244-IEHP (4347) for help. TTY users can call 711.

Get care through MDLIVE

We’ve partnered with MDLIVE to offer easy telehealth access. As part of IEHP’s network of doctors, MDLIVE gives you virtual access to board-certified doctors 24/7, 365 days a year. When you can’t reach your primary care doctor, turn to MDLIVE for care at no cost to you.

All IEHP Medi-Cal and DualChoice members can use MDLIVE as a covered service. This is not available for IEHP Covered members at this time, but rest assured, we’re working on it.

Medications

MDLIVE doctors may prescribe medication if needed. They can write a prescription for non-narcotic medications, which can be sent straight to the pharmacy of your choice within IEHP’s network.

Once your telehealth call ends, the doctor will send an eScript (electronic prescription) to the pharmacy. If for any reason your pharmacy can’t get eScripts, MDLIVE will make a standard prescription for the doctor to sign and fax.

All prescriptions comply with state laws and have all needed info.

Medication refills

If you’re looking to refill a prescription, please note that MDLIVE doctors need to:

  • Lead a virtual visit.
  • Have the option to check a member prescription on the secure IEHP Member Portal.
  • Use eScript and prescribe a 30-day refill.
