Prepare for Needed Care

Five tips for getting care quickly

1. Plan ahead.

Schedule your doctor’s visits early, especially routine checkups and well-care visits, to get the best times. If your doctor has an online portal, use it to set up your visits.

2. Keep your info current.

Make sure your doctor’s office has your updated phone number, address and insurance information. This prevents delays and helps you get reminders and updates on time.

3. Ask about options.

If your doctor is busy, ask about telehealth, nurse practitioners or another doctor in the office. Some clinics set aside certain days and times for walk-in visits. Ask the doctor’s staff about walk-ins.

4. Use urgent care when needed.

For issues that can’t wait or when your doctor’s office is closed, urgent care clinics are a good option for same-day attention.

5. Call IEHP’s 24-Hour Nurse Advice Line.

Our nurses can provide medical advice any time, day or night. If needed, they can also connect you with a doctor for a telehealth visit. Call 1-888-244-IEHP (4347). TTY users should call 711.

Bonus tip: Set up your next visit before leaving your appointment.
