Today, people with diabetes live longer and more healthy lives. Although having diabetes can put you at risk for serious health problems, there is a lot you can do to stay well and delay or prevent any complications. The Diabetes Self-Management Workshop is for people with type 2 diabetes and their relatives or that need information on diabetes self-management.
What is the Diabetes Self-Management Workshop?
Diabetes Self-Management Workshop
Format: Group
Duration: 6 weeks (2 hours per workshop)
Ages: Any age if diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or guardian)
Participants have the opportunity to ask questions, offer comments and share their experiences and ideas about managing and controlling diabetes. We will have weekly action plans to help you, your friends and your family learn and practice self-management skills.
In this workshop participants will learn about:
- Diabetes and health risks
- How to manage diabetes
- Healthy lifestyle changes
- Meal planning
- Diabetes medicines
This workshop is offered in Riverside and San Bernardino.

Healthy Heart Program
If you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or simply want to learn ways to protect yourself from heart disease, join the free IEHP Healthy Heart program.
There are 3 topics offered. Each class is one hour long.
- Introduction to Healthy Heart
Learn lifestyle changes that can reduce the risk of heart disease. Understand how the heart works and how to respond to heart attack signs and symptoms. Participants will create a survival plan for a heart attack and learn how to respond to a heart attack if one were to occur.
- Control your Blood Pressure
Learn what blood pressure is and what level to aim for. Be aware of warning signs of strokes and other risks linked with high blood pressure. Participants will create a healthy habits checklist on how to control blood pressure.
- Control Your Cholesterol
Learn what cholesterol is and how it affects the body. We’ll talk about the importance of heart healthy eating and steps to take to lower cholesterol levels. Participants will create a plan on how to lower cholesterol levels.
